Heartless was everything I needed in a book right now. It had love and fighting and ALL THE FEELS. Heartless followed Lady Catherine Pinkerton (what a name, huh?) as she tried to go against her parents’ wishes and open a bakery. Her cooking must be awfully great, and there are AMAZING food descriptions. Listen-“The tarts’ sunshine filling quivered, as if glad to be freed from the stone chamber. Okay don’t panic! It’s from the first page, no spoilers. YET! Also, who’s paralyzed with surprise that I ACTUALLY BLOGGED TWICE IN A WEEK. Oh gosh, are hot dogs going to rain from the sky and our world become Wonderland? Okay, back to Heartless.

Okay, so anyhow, I thoroughly liked Heartless as a whole, and it gets a *drumroll*  4 out of 5 stars! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. The only thing I had a problem with was that Cath. Never. Stood. Up. For. Herself.  It was just JEST (the king’s joker) I LOVE YOU SAVE MEEE. Seriously, is she the new Bella?

Cath is the single most unrealistic person I’ve ever seen. No, no not the single most hopeful person, she isn’t Jay Gatsby.

No, she was just RIDICULOUS. Ohhhhhh my parents are forcing me to become Queen, but betcha a dollar I can get out of it! She did kill a Jabberwock thingy after all, but you know. HER LIFE IS RULED BY MEN. Jest! Jestjestjest he dies and her life FALLS APART. She has no willpower. The king, oh the king! Always with the giggling. But oh my gosh, yeah her life is ruined by men either way. 

Okayyy but the I loved the way Marissa Meyer wrote. I’m a huge fan of the Lunar Chronicles, and not to be mean, but I think that she was really relying on past fame to sell this book. Because if some breakout author wrote it, then it would have been shot down by the lack of feminism in this book. It was really good, nonetheless.

Good things! I really enjoyed the little references to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Like the riddle? It was just so cool! Also, I really liked the whole descent into becoming “Heartless”. It was such a peculiar experience to see Cath start as this cutesy little light-hearted baker, just cooking up some tarts, and then falling into a rabbit hole of depression and numbness. It was really strange and oddly interesting.
