The Crown by Kiera Cass is the conclusion to the ever-popular Selection Series, revolving mainly around America Singer and Maxon Schreave. As many of you know, Miss Cass created a sort of spinoff duology following the life of eighteen-year-old Eadlyn Schreave, Maxon and America’s daughter. Maxon and America have come up with the grand idea of Eadlyn having her own selection, as she is the eldest of their (many) children. Eadlyn begrudgingly agrees after much debate, positive that she will not find love. But, that’s never the case with a Selection book. This book follows Eadlyn as she is deep within her selection, and shows her struggle of her picking one winner. If you haven’t read The Selection, well, SORRY FOR THE SPOILERS! But if you haven’t read The Crown, now I will begin delving into the spoilers!

Eadlyn’s character development is shockingly swift and quite peculiarly, drastic. She goes from this spoiled, rich, bratty teenage girl who can’t even comprehend why people get so annoyed with her sometimes, to this grown-up girl who has made her peace with others (yes, I’m referring to Josie) and is ready to become the queen.

AMERICA. Her death would have destroyed me, but going into this book, I believed with the whole of my heart she would live. And lived she did. I wonder if she’s the first in her family to survive this type of heart trauma. If I was Ahren, I’d be feeling pretty guilty being a huge factor in my mom’s heart attack. Because he WAS. Ahren was the last straw, if you could call it that. I was happy beyond belief that America didn’t pass on. She’s the main character of the original trilogy, so how could she even die (I say having read THREE+ trilogies where a main character dies). Those authors, even though you aren’t reading this, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! But I really admire those authors who have the bravery to kill an important character, because they know the fangirls will go crazy (AKA me!)

ERIK WAS ENDGAME. I wanted Kile or Erik to win, and ERIK YASS. This ending came a little bit too fast for my liking (where’s all the frustrating indecision? Oh, well, probably in the rest of the series. And this book. Just not this part.) She’s just like: Oh? Nine minutes? I think I’ll change my mind really fast, and everything will be fine. Totally. For someone with America as their mother, you’d think Eadlyn would spent about five years trying to decide if she should marry Erik or not. Truly?
